WHAT IS CHAT?

CHAT, also known as cultural-historical activity theory. Is known as the modern-day Rhetorical Triangle. Yes, that's right. The three-thousand-year-old method of producing a product has been replaced. Or has it? I like to think of it just like how humans have evolved to be the intelligent creatures we are today. The Rhetorical Triangle has evolved into the CHAT. CHAT now shows up a

theory when we are creating a product and even trying to classify a genre.

CHAT follows the same three principals that you have originally seen in the Rhetorical triangle. Just only this time it puts context into everything. So much context in fact that it now has six different terms to go by. Production, representation, distribution, reception, socialization, activity, and ecology.

WHAT DOES CHAT LOOK LIKE WHEN IT'S BROKEN DOWN?

Now we will go over each individual term. To start we have "production." Seems easy enough. In short yes, it's the product itself but CHAT also throws in that the tools in order to make the product is also part of the production area in CHAT.

Next, we have representation. This term has to do with the troubles that come along with creating a product.

After that we have distribution. The term has to do with where our product is going. Is it sent through text? is it going to be seen online by hundreds of thousands of people? Long story short the term means where the product is going and who is going to receive it.

Now we have reception. This seems pretty self-explanatory and has to do with how the audience is receiving the product and what are they are going to do with it. This is from the original Rhetorical triangle but added onto the term making it more detailed in its meaning.

After reception we have socialization. This has to do with the interactions from the audience. The easiest way to describe this term would be how you like a Tik Tok or follow a new person on Instagram because you liked their post.

Now you have activity. This term has to do with anything and everything that has to do with the process of making a product. This has such a literal meaning that even you check your phone while you are trying to make a product is part of the term activity.

Finally, we have ecology. This has to do with factors in your environment that could prevent you from creating a product. For example, you're a photographer and you plan on doing a photo shoot. Turns out you can't because of the weather.

TO CONCLUDE...

I wouldn't say that CHAT is a brand-new theory, but I would say it has evolved from the original triangle into something much more. All of these terms act as a road map when creating a product. I plan on using CHAT anytime I go and make a product of my own.
